Ok, it's been one of those days. I think I should have just gone back to bed. The morning started out with Ellie puking all over herself and her bed because she was screaming so loud/much. She wasn't even in her room awake for very long. I will be the first to admit that I am NOT a fast mover in the morning. BUT today I was in the girls' room fairly quickly after they woke me up. It wreaked of puke so they both got into the shower right away. After ALL the kids were showered they sat down to eat breakfast. B wanted pancakes with syrup (we usually have them with peanut butter, a little less messy). Perfect, sticky syrup right after a shower is always a good plan. Whatever, I got them pancakes and syrup. (Kent makes a ton of pancakes on the weekends, then we freeze them, it's the best). During breakfast the girls are wild and crazy and B is feeding into it. Place mats over the heads, forks pounding the table, shrieking, animal noises.....anything you could imagine. So, finally I put the girls in time-out. B and I finished eating and we were on our way for a walk.
It was almost 40 degrees, so roasty toasty nowadays. Like me, B hasn't had exercise in months. He is a little out of shape like his Mama. He struggled and WHINED pretty much the entire 45 minutes. (He rides his bike while I walk). We live at the bottom of the "WEEE" hill. So I usually give B 5 pushes up the gigantic hill. Not today, I had to push him the entire way with my hand on his back, while I maneuvered the double jogger. When we got to the top of the hill, I looked back and saw Danielle's mitten at the very bottom. WTH. There was no way I was going to do the pushing all over again. I parked the girls parallel to the hill and told B to make sure everyone is safe. (Am I a terrible mom or what? They were in full view the whole time I ran down and back up the hill). By the time I got to the top, I was done in, but it took at least 20 minutes to get everyone loaded with hats, coats, shoes and mittens, so I was not going to give up just yet. As we're walking/riding down the path I realized we were right on time for the buses to be taking the kids to school, there is one portion of the walk where we have to walk on the road. SO we had to make a detour because I hate dealing with the school traffic, a stroller and a 4 year old on a bike...... eventually we made it back home with lots of tears from B a couple falls and dirty knees.
After I showered and got dressed it was off to pick up Cousin Eliette for story time. We picked up Eliette and went to the library. Four kids around the same age and one mom is quite a sight. We got even more stares when the kids were naughty and shrieking/running away from the one mom. I tell ya, why did I think this was a good idea? Brayden and Eliette picked out there movies and books and we headed to the actual story time in the basement. (The elevator alone was an experience, I didn't put the girls in the stroller). We all sat down and they have this fabulous idea of having the kids write their names on name tags and then tape them onto their shirts. This is all well and good for one child, but to have two, two year olds manage this and scream (ca ca cayon, color crayon) the entire time when people are trying to listen to books, not so great. Ellie also climbed all up and down me, talked and jumped at the baby behind us, while Dani tried to climb onto the table to reach the markers that I tried to hide. Needless to say, we left story time early.
Onto stop number two! Yeah, what an idiot, why didn't I go home? A Dad from B's pre-school is a fire fighter and he was talking about fire safety to the kids in the Wed. class. All the kids from different classes were invited to join him. I saw the presentation last year, and it was great, I thought B could use a refresher course. He puts his outfit on and his mask/air tank so the kids can see how firemen look and won't hide if they're ever in a fire situation. Brayden and Eliette loved it. The girls and I were able to sit through half the presentation (better than I thought) then we went and ran in the yard outside. I eventually had to lock them in their car seats in the van and go in and wait for B and E. Everyone survived and we made it home for lunch!
Now, lunch is over (I won't go into that one). It is nap time (the best part of my day), as I sit here venting/decompressing, Dani and Ellie are shrieking at the top of their lungs and banging something on their cribs......oh, it was just a new mixer from their kitchen set. Danielle was banging it as hard as she could and Ellie was laughing her head off. As soon as I walked in, Ellie says, "Dan, Dan, no, no. No, no Dan Dan."
I have to say blogging does help, it puts things into perspective and I can laugh when it's all over. Plus, my next client who is coming is a triplet! This mom has FOUR girls! One five year old and three, three year olds. Things could be harder!
I hope all the moms out there are having a lovely day..... keep smiling and/or get lots of happy juice (for me, it's mochas). I keep telling Kent I may have to start a crack habit soon! :)
Happy Birthday Mom and Auntie Jan, I hope your day is going better than mine at this point!

YOU are one LUCKY Mommy!! There is a poor woman (in California, I think) who had 6 kids and now the poor mommy just had 8 more. BUT, at least the poor (get my sarcasm) mommy just spent the weekend down here in Florida at Disney World. Just maintain; in a FEW more years they will all be old enough to join the Navy!!
Oh Christy! Hope your day was better after their naps! We all have those days, sometimes its way to often! I'm sure I'll have a similar vent soon, especially since Joey is in NH for 3 weeks this time!!
I'm tired just reading your blog...why is it that no matter how bad the day, when you tuck them in at night,it's all o.k.
